The group is making exciting progress. GiGi Miller, the artist behind the concept, created a 3-d model which we then used to produce the digital renderings below. Special thanks to Heidi Holsinger or Holsinger Architecture for all of her amazing work. They actually hacked an Xbox Kinect and used it to capture these images (too cool!).
At this point we are still pulling together the concept to present to City Council. We are also exploring one of two sites. The illustrations below show the Playarium at the Bee Cave Sculpture Park.
This overhead view shows the full size of the Playarium. It is designed to blend naturally with the surroundings while providing three unique worlds for children to explore – all centered around a great tree.
The great tree serves not only as the central point but is also a world in and of itself. Children can explore inside the tree ultimately leading to a slide that goes through the Bee Cave, one of the other worlds in the Playarium. Everything will be hand built with skilled artisans to make the experience as lifelike as possible. GiGi also plans to make use of mosaic tiles, similar to how she created a sculpture park favorite, Leap of Faith.
This world takes children away from central Texas and delivers them half way around the world. There will be a Starry Night design as a backdrop, a woven flying carpet and the ribbon that traverses the ground is designed to offer children a safe and unique way to explore and improve their balance.
