On Sat March 7th from 1-3pm the Old Schoolhouse at the Bee Cave Sculpture Park was filled with families attending the 5th Annual Art Show Reception. Talented art students representing the Lake Travis Independent School District’s six Elementary Schools and two Middle Schools had work on display. Enthusiastic young artists proudly showed off their masterpieces to their parents, siblings, grandparents and friends.
Bee Cave’s Mayor Caroline Murphy was present to honor the featured art students. The Mayor presented Certificates of Achievement to the budding artists while also drawing the winning raffle ticket for a free Kid’s Summer Art Camp and the winning raffle ticket for the art teacher’s prize. Students then had the opportunity to have their photo taken with the Mayor.
Students participated in hands on activities with Diana Melancon, Bee Cave Arts Foundation summer art camp instructor. The Austin Family Magazine graciously provided the talented caricature artists, Stephen Romero and his daughter Serena, who drew portraits of the students at lightning speed. Attendees toured the beautiful grounds of the Bee Cave Sculpture Park, participating in a scavenger hunt to find different sculptures.
Student , Presley Blake won the free week of Summer Art Camp with the Bee Cave Arts Foundation at the Old School House in June and Aaron Forgey, art instructor with Lake Travis Elementary School won the teacher raffle. His prize was a $50 gift certificate for Michaels Arts and Craft Store
The yearly arts event allows local art teachers the opportunity to present student artwork to the community. This partnership brings the public schools and community together to support young artists and their art teachers.
The Bee Cave Sculpture Park was packed with families and attendance at the event surpassed expectations, showing incredible community support for the arts.
